Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Likhawat — Calligraphy & Design Studio (“Likhawat”, “we”, “us”, “our”) handles personal data when you visit https://likhawat.co.in/ or engage us for commissioned work. We are an Indian creative studio and we comply with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) and other applicable Indian laws.

1. Who we are

Likhawat is a calligraphy and surface-design studio operating from India. We design and produce hand-rendered lettering on sarees, stoles, fabric panels, walls and bespoke surfaces. For the purposes of the DPDP Act, Likhawat is the Data Fiduciary in respect of personal data submitted through this website.

2. Personal data we collect

  • Enquiry data — name, email address and the message you type into our Contact Form 7 form. You provide this voluntarily when you contact us about commissioned work, classes or collaborations.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL and pages viewed. This is collected through standard web-server logs and, if Jetpack analytics is active, through Jetpack’s analytics cookies.
  • Cookies — small text files used to keep the site working and (if logged in) to keep you signed in. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.
  • Commission file data — if you engage us for bespoke work, we may hold reference photographs, design briefs and delivery addresses you share with us by email or messaging.

We do not collect payment-card details on this website. WooCommerce checkout is not active on the site at present; any commercial settlement is done off-site through bank transfer or UPI to an account in Likhawat’s name. Where payment is collected outside this website, the relevant payment processor handles your card or UPI data under its own privacy terms.

3. Lawful basis for processing

Under the DPDP Act, we rely on the following grounds:

  • Section 6 — Consent. Your free, specific, informed, unconditional and unambiguous consent, given by ticking the consent checkbox on the contact form before you submit your enquiry.
  • Section 7 — Certain legitimate uses. Where you voluntarily share data so that we can respond to a service request you have specifically initiated, or where processing is needed to comply with Indian law.

4. Purpose of processing

  • To respond to your enquiry, quote, schedule and deliver commissioned work.
  • To organise calligraphy sessions and classes you have signed up for.
  • To keep our website secure, available and reasonably free of spam and abuse.
  • To meet bookkeeping and tax obligations under Indian law.

We do not use your data for behavioural advertising. We do not sell your data to anybody.

5. Retention

  • Enquiry messages are retained for up to 12 months from the last contact, after which they are deleted unless they have become part of a live commission.
  • Commissioned-work files (briefs, references, finished artwork records) are retained for as long as the project is active and for a further seven years thereafter, in line with Indian tax and contract record-keeping norms.
  • Server logs rotate within 30 days.

6. Sharing of data

We do not share your personal data with third parties except:

  • With our website host and email service providers, who act as Data Processors under written instructions from Likhawat;
  • With courier and logistics partners when you have asked us to deliver finished artwork to an address you have provided;
  • With law-enforcement, regulatory or judicial authorities in response to a lawful order or where Indian law otherwise requires.

7. Your rights as a Data Principal

Under sections 11 to 14 of the DPDP Act you have the right to:

  • Access a summary of personal data we hold about you and the processing we have done.
  • Correct, complete or update your personal data and have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Erase personal data that is no longer required for the purpose it was collected.
  • Grievance redressal — raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (details below).
  • Nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, with the same ease with which it was given. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

If you wish to exercise any of the rights above, or raise a privacy concern, please write to:

  • Grievance Officer: Shipra Dutta
  • Email: info@likhawat.co.in

9. Children’s data

Our website is intended for adult patrons of calligraphy and design. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the age of 18, and we do not undertake tracking, behavioural monitoring or targeted advertising directed at children, as required by section 9 of the DPDP Act.
